Washington City Public Works Department, specifically within its Operations Division, is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Water Systems Operator at various levels ranging from Level 1 to Level 4. Job Requirements
- graduation from high school or equivalent
- one general work experience performing related duties or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- must possess valid commercial driver's license
- must be able to lift 50-75 pounds
- must be willing to work on-call duty and 24-hour standby
- certified flagger within 12 months
- certified state water system operator level i within 12 months
- pass background check and drug screening

- ability to read blueprints and perform basic mathematics
- ability to work in all weather conditions
Job Duties
- operate various types of heavy equipment such as rollers, compactors and trenching equipment
- perform installation or repair of water service connections, water lines and meters
- flush, repair or replace fire hydrants and plugged water meters
- repair water mains
- clean and maintain storage tanks and reservoirs
- connect and disconnect service and locate shut off valves and water line leaks
- assist in placement of pipe and water regulators
- remove, disassemble, clean or replace defective parts of regulators and adjust pilot valves
- install new water lines using pipe threaded, tapping machine, welder, pipe cutting saw and locator
- tear out and repair curb, gutter and street in locating and uncovering broken lines
- build meter boxes and extensions
- operate hand tools and small power equipment
- perform repairs and maintenance on pump stations, pumps, valves, wells and reservoirs
- monitor city water well storage levels and ensure maintenance of electrical, pumping, chlorinating and storage equipment
- maintain records of water lines, pumps, valves and storage levels
- conduct water sampling and deliver to state-certified laboratory
- monitor and test chlorine levels and adjust dosage
- install and repair water meters
- participate in work zone safety procedures including flagging and setting warning signs
- perform general maintenance on facilities and equipment including painting and steam cleaning
- perform other related duties as assigned
