Job Description

Washington City Public Works Department - Operations Division is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the integrity of the city's potable and non-potable water systems. Job Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • at least one year of general work experience in related duties or equivalent education and experience combination
  • valid commercial driver’s license
  • ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds
  • willingness to work on-call and 24-hour standby
  • must become a certified flagger within 12 months
  • must become a certified state Water System Operator Level I within 12 months
  • comply with job safety and operational guidelines
  • ability to work under physical strain and varying weather conditions

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • general work experience performing related or similar duties
  • knowledge of basic manual and power tools
  • understanding of pipeline construction, repair activities, and safety precautions
  • ability to operate heavy equipment and perform heavy physical labor
  • effective communication skills both verbal and written
  • basic math skills for meter and gauge readings
  • ability to work from blueprints
  • willingness to work on-call and standby duty
  • possession of valid commercial driver’s license
  • certification as a flagger and Water System Operator Level I within 12 months

Job Duties

  • Operate various equipment like rollers, compactors, trenching equipment
  • install and repair water service connections, lines, and meters
  • flush, repair or replace fire hydrants and water meters
  • clean and maintain water storage tanks and reservoirs
  • perform repairs and maintenance on pumps, valves, wells, and reservoirs
  • conduct water sampling and ensure proper chlorine levels
  • install, repair, and test water meters
  • participate in work zone safety procedures
  • perform general maintenance of facilities and equipment
  • other related duties as assigned
