Job Description

The City of Burlington is a municipal government entity responsible for delivering essential services to its residents, including the provision of clean and safe drinking water. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Some experience with basic laboratory bench work or equivalent
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license
  • Surface Water "C" Certificate or ability to obtain within one year
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and variable environmental conditions
  • Ability to wear a respirator when necessary
  • Non-exempt employment status

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of water treatment plant operations
  • Familiarity with state and federal water quality regulations
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with plant maintenance
  • Surface Water "C" Certificate or ability to obtain within one year

Job Duties

  • Conduct hourly plant rounds to monitor gauge readings and calibrations
  • Perform routine water quality tests including turbidity, chlorine residuals, and alkalinity
  • Adjust chemical feed rates and calibrate fluoride meters
  • Conduct filter backwashing and maintenance activities
  • Calculate chemical dosages and document plant performance accurately
  • Report equipment failures and assist customers with inquiries
  • Perform related duties to support plant operations effectively
