Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • high school education or equivalent
  • ability to understand and follow instructions in English
  • communicate effectively
  • perform simple arithmetic
  • ability to understand measurements and conversions
  • minimum of one year of experience as a cook in a hotel, restaurant, club or similar institution
  • ability to plan and organize work
  • interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards
  • knowledge of kitchen equipment
  • flexibility with schedule, including ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays
  • ability to make independent decisions without supervision
  • ability to interact tactfully with residents and family members, staff and general public
  • ability to make decisions in stressful situations
  • exceptional listener and communicator who effectively conveys information verbally and in writing
  • ability to make warm, positive connections with residents, families, vendors and team members
  • good physical health verified by a health screening, including a tuberculosis screening by intradermal test or chest x-ray prior to employment
  • employee must pass a criminal record clearance prior to beginning work in the community

Job Duties

  • Makes resident satisfaction the number one priority
  • serves meals to residents, family members and visitors in a professional, dignified, efficient and courteous manner
  • assures compliance with all proper serving techniques/etiquette
  • assists residents with menu selections as needed
  • accurately and professionally takes residents and guests' food and beverage orders
  • verifies food prepared matches items ordered on POS
  • ensures food orders reflect special requests, including menu substitutions
  • identifies how various menu items are prepared, ingredients, and cooking methods especially for daily specials for residents and guests
  • ensures that plates are presentable before serving
  • brings and serves food using large oval trays and tray stands
  • preparing to-go or delivery orders appropriately
  • serves as a liaison with kitchen and dining room staff to make corrections or adjustments to orders as necessary
  • tracks residents' attendance at meals
  • delivers meals to resident rooms as required
  • prepares dining room prior to each meal by performing necessary cleaning and stocking
  • checks dining room stock and nourishments
  • pulls old items and restocks as necessary
  • cleans tables and chairs after meals and picks up floor areas
  • buses tables and returns all dishes to the kitchen
  • maintains clean and sanitary work environment at all times
  • reports equipment safety issues to the Director of Culinary Services
  • follows standards for time and attendance
  • displays tact and friendliness when dealing with residents, families and visitors
  • cooperates to get work done and is flexible with daily schedule
  • assists in food inventory and/or wash dishes when needed
  • assists in breaking down deliveries and puts away stock as needed
  • provides support to community's marketing efforts through positive/friendly interaction during property tours and telephone contact with the public
  • communicates any observed or suspected resident change of condition to a supervisor immediately
  • maintains a safe and secure environment for all staff, residents and guests, following established safety standards
  • encourages teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments
  • supports a positive and professional image through actions and dress
  • performs other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Culinary Services Director or Dining Services Director
