Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent with six years of related work experience
  • or bachelor's degree with two years of related experience
  • current employee of Hamilton County Health Department
  • ability to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • valid driver's license
  • completion of defensive driving course or emergency vehicle operations course
  • availability during inclement weather and emergencies
  • maintain current contact information
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to maintain confidentiality
  • skill in public speaking and presentations
  • proficient in operating personal computer and software applications

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in health services field, Human Services Management, or Human Resource Management
  • two years of direct work experience in public health, emergency management, emergency response, health care, volunteer or organizational management, or related field
  • experience in volunteer coordination preferred
  • knowledge of emergency preparedness preferred
  • skilled in public speaking and communication
  • ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • proficient in computer software applications
  • effective interpersonal skills
  • knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations

Job Duties

  • Identify and solicit volunteer involvement of individuals and/or groups
  • attend meetings, sessions, seminars, and other gatherings to explain the Public Health Emergency Preparedness Program and Volunteer Program
  • respond to questions and inquiries about volunteer duties and expectations
  • develop and present program materials
  • accept, review, screen, and assign volunteers
  • issue identification
  • provide ongoing communication and support
  • conduct certification and background processes
  • maintain call-down procedures and volunteer information
  • manage staging area during events
  • maintain and manage volunteer records, databases, and communication systems
  • analyze, review and evaluate program operations
  • recommend and implement improvements
  • develop and present activity reports
  • represent the program in public and departmental meetings
  • identify staffing, equipment, and supply needs
  • provide and coordinate training for volunteers and staff
  • assign and track required trainings for compliance
  • maintain training records
  • collaborate with Tennessee Department of Health and regional partners
  • coordinate reporting and documentation
  • assist in developing public health emergency response plans
  • support operational readiness of volunteer and staff resources
  • develop, maintain, and test plans for the Medical Reserve Corps volunteer program
  • coordinate volunteer and staff participation in drills, exercises, and real-world responses
  • supports exercise execution, including staffing and operations
  • support outreach, community engagement, and large-scale events
  • develop relationships with community partners and stakeholders
  • coordinate and manage program supplies, equipment, and materials
  • support inventory tracking and readiness for deployment
  • coordinate administrative and logistical support for training and operations
  • act as liaison with internal and external partners
  • participate in emergency response drills
  • identify and provide trainings for staff and community
  • assist in development and implementation of projects and strategies
  • may lead projects during special events
  • work varied schedules including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • perform other assigned duties
