Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • three years of job-related experience
  • ability to clearly communicate with staff and public
  • knowledge about the shelter and pets and the Fort Bend County community
  • proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media, and various graphics programs
  • ability to work with animals (dogs and cats) of all sizes and temperaments
  • bilingual preferred

Job Duties

  • actively recruits volunteers using various outreach channels
  • researches, devises, and implements volunteer recruitment and retention strategies
  • trains, mentors, and serves as primary contact for volunteers
  • prepares and provides regular volunteer orientations
  • keeps volunteer materials updated
  • develops and maintains specialized volunteer programs and training
  • coordinates with kennel staff to ensure enrichment activities for shelter animals
  • implements new volunteer programs to support staff and reduce program strain
  • communicates volunteer program changes and trains staff accordingly
  • upholds shelter values and mission in interactions
  • reports volunteer program issues and devises solutions
  • tracks and reports volunteer data
  • manages volunteer database and social media
  • creates and distributes monthly volunteer newsletters
  • mentors staff and senior volunteers
  • coordinates foster and volunteer management
  • manages volunteer involvement in events
  • collaborates with adoption and transport coordinators for volunteer support
  • participates in emergency management activities during disasters
