Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a Veterinary Technician program preferred
  • Valid state Veterinary Technician license or certification required where applicable
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and restraining animals
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Strong multitasking and critical thinking skills
  • Must be compassionate and dedicated to quality patient care

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in veterinary technology or related field preferred
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in emergency veterinary medicine is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in digital radiography and anesthesia monitoring
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to mentor and train other staff members
  • Compassionate and patient approach with clients

Job Duties

  • Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment
  • Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure
  • Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients
  • Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation
  • Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues
  • Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR
  • Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
