Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a Veterinary Technician program preferred
- Valid state Veterinary Technician license or certification required where applicable
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and restraining animals
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
- Strong multitasking and critical thinking skills
- Must be compassionate and dedicated to quality patient care
Job Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in veterinary technology or related field preferred
- Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in emergency veterinary medicine is highly desirable
- Proficiency in digital radiography and anesthesia monitoring
- Ability to perform phlebotomy and place intravenous catheters
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to mentor and train other staff members
- Compassionate and patient approach with clients
Job Duties
- Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment
- Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure
- Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients
- Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation
- Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues
- Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR
- Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration
