Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • one year of experience in a veterinary office
  • preferably experience with Avimark software
  • knowledge of clerical procedures such as alphabetizing files and records
  • flexibility with scheduling and ability to work Saturdays
  • ability to perform tasks involving extended periods at a keyboard or workstation and/or standing and walking
  • ability to perform moderately physically demanding work, involving lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • one year of experience in a veterinary office
  • preferably experience with Avimark software
  • knowledge of clerical procedures such as alphabetizing files and records
  • basic veterinary medicine terminology
  • familiarity with retail products, medications, vaccinations, routine testing, and heartworm and flea preventatives
  • strong computer and phone skills
  • excellent communication and multitasking abilities
  • positive attitude and ability to work well under pressure

Job Duties

  • Coordinate the flow of pets and owners in the lobby
  • alleviate owners' distress caused by long waits, scheduling glitches, and other issues
  • perform cashiering duties, including processing refunds, returns, and credits as needed
  • respond to inquiries about the range of services the practice provides and the species it treats, referring to the appropriate department or staff member as needed
  • input data to practice management software (Avimark) to check pets in, make simple account postings, and compile data for various reports
  • coordinate and schedule appointments, providing clients with appointment reminders and special instructions, and call clients whose pets have overdue treatments
  • respond to client emails, type and edit various correspondence, and process incoming and outgoing faxes
