Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • part-time availability including Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and possibly Saturdays
  • prior experience in customer service or veterinary office preferred
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to multitask and manage stressful situations calmly
  • proficient computer skills including use of multi-line phone systems and medical record software
  • willingness to comply with identity verification process during interviews

  • computer literacy including keyboarding, email, and internet communication
  • working knowledge of veterinary terminology including pronunciation, spelling, and meaning
  • excellent spelling and grammar skills
  • ability to handle varied and sometimes difficult and emotional situations with tact and respect
  • ability to conduct oneself confidently, calmly, and professionally under stress
  • genuine liking for animals and dedication to animal care field

Job Duties

  • Maintain and uphold the core values and mission statement of MPH
  • greet clients and pets by name with a smile and a positive attitude
  • answer phones promptly and professionally using a multi-line phone system
  • screen and route calls to appropriate staff and deliver messages promptly
  • schedule appointments and surgeries according to hospital guidelines and make confirmation calls
  • note details of client conversations in medical records including date, time, key points, and required information
  • enter accurate charges and explain invoices to clients showing value for care
  • collect payments including cash, credit cards, and checks with proper ID verification
  • verify eligibility of clients with charge accounts
  • check and update client contact information in medical and computer records
  • fill prescription refill forms and provide routine administration instructions
  • advise clients on flea/tick preventatives, heartworm preventatives, pre-anesthetic testing, pain management, shampoos, home dental products, and other retail items
