Job Qualifications

  • computer knowledge including keyboarding and use of communication tools like email and internet
  • working knowledge of veterinary terminology with ability to pronounce, spell, and know meanings
  • excellent spelling and grammar skills
  • ability to handle varied and sometimes difficult conditions including exposure to highly emotional situations
  • ability to display tact and respect with clients and team members even in busy or hectic environments
  • ability to conduct oneself in a confident, calm, and professional manner in stressful situations or when focused on tasks
  • genuine liking for animals and their owners and for working in animal care field

Job Duties

  • Maintain and uphold the Core Values and Mission Statement of MPH
  • greet clients and pets by name with a smile and a positive attitude
  • answer phones promptly and professionally using a multi-line phone system
  • screen and route calls to appropriate staff and take messages
  • schedule appointments and surgeries according to hospital guidelines
  • note details in medical records including date, time, and key points
  • enter accurate charges and explain invoices to clients
  • collect payments and process transactions including credit cards and checks
  • verify eligibility of clients with charge accounts
  • check and update client contact information in records
  • fill prescription refill forms and provide administration instructions
  • advise clients on flea/tick preventatives, heartworm preventatives, pre-anesthetic testing, pain management, shampoos, home dental products, and other retail items
