Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a customer service or receptionist role preferred
  • Basic computer skills with familiarity in multi-line phone systems
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Reliable availability for evening and Saturday shifts
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and emotionally demanding environment

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to MPH core values
  • Computer knowledge including keyboarding and use of communication tools such as email and internet
  • Working knowledge of veterinary terminology with ability to pronounce, spell, and understand meanings
  • Excellent spelling and grammar
  • Ability to handle varied and sometimes difficult conditions, including exposure to highly emotional situations
  • Ability to display tact and respect with clients and team members even when busy or hectic
  • Ability to conduct oneself in a confident, calm, and professional manner during stressful situations
  • Genuine liking for animals and their owners and passion for working in the animal care field

Job Duties

  • Maintain and uphold the core values and mission statement of MPH
  • Greet clients and pets by name with a smile and a positive, solution-oriented attitude
  • Answer phones promptly and professionally using a multi-line phone system
  • Screen and route calls to appropriate staff and take messages promptly
  • Schedule appointments and surgeries according to hospital scheduling guidelines and make confirmation calls
  • Note in medical records the details discussed during client conversations including date, time, key points, and required information
  • Enter accurate charges and explain invoices before checkout
  • Collect payments including cash, credit cards, and checks
  • Verify eligibility of clients with charge accounts
  • Check medical records for accurate client information and scan new documents
  • Fill prescription refill forms and provide routine administration instructions
  • Advise clients on flea/tick preventative, heartworm preventatives, pre-anesthetic testing, pain management, shampoos, home dental products, and other retail items
