Job Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • hold a valid Merchant Mariner Credential issued by the U.S. Coast Guard appropriate for the route
  • have valid Pilot of Towing Vessels license with necessary endorsements
  • maintain a valid Driver's License
  • possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • exhibit physical capacity to perform manual tasks including lifting and pushing up to 50 pounds
  • have basic understanding or experience with maritime-related computer software
  • demonstrate commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
  • have communication skills to effectively liaise with crew and authorities
  • prior experience navigating inland waterways preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Possess a Merchant Mariner Credential from the U.S. Coast Guard appropriate for the route
  • hold a valid U.S. Coast Guard Pilot of Towing Vessels license with endorsements (Western Rivers, Great Lakes, Inland Waters preferred)
  • maintain a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • demonstrate commitment to safety and risk mitigation
  • possess strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • have basic knowledge or experience with computer software such as Microsoft Office, RosePoint, TowWorks, and Egnyte
  • hold a valid Driver's License
  • possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • prior experience navigating the Illinois River preferred

Job Duties

  • Report relevant vessel condition information and prevent accidents
  • safely navigate and pilot the vessel
  • maintain vessel seaworthiness and tow condition
  • ensure safety of all crew members and passengers
  • prevent environmental incidents and uphold protection standards
  • comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations including the Certificate of Inspection
  • comply with Illinois Marine Towing and Canal Barge Company policies and procedures
  • maintain accurate and timely logs and reports
  • perform bridge administration tasks
  • support cost control measures and supervise crew
  • contribute to on-the-job training initiatives
  • perform duties under inclement weather and rough water conditions
  • carry out other duties as directed by management
  • uphold company business philosophy, code of conduct, mission and vision
