Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • two years of specialized technical courses in automotive and truck mechanics
  • more than three years and up to five years of journeyman level experience in vehicle repair including buses
  • valid Colorado driver’s license
  • commercial driver’s license with P and S endorsements
  • obtain Colorado Department of Education inspector’s license within six months of hire
  • criminal background check required for hire
  • have own tools
  • availability to respond to calls after regular work hours
  • ability to drive school bus if needed
  • ability to perform inspections and repairs according to CDE and district policies

Job Qualifications

  • ability to troubleshoot complex engine systems
  • skilled in using diagnostic and power equipment

  • understanding of automotive trade practices

  • proficiency in basic math operations

Job Duties

  • Follow prescribed preventative maintenance procedures on all vehicles
  • perform services and repairs on school buses including diesel engines, injectors, pumps, automatic transmission repair and replacement, wheelchair lifts, air brake systems, and electrical systems
  • assist in maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of all district vehicles as required by Colorado Department of Education and district safety policies
  • perform CDE inspections on all district buses and white fleet by following CDE procedures and district policies
  • respond to school bus driver needs and maintain positive working relationships with transportation staff
  • troubleshoot and program computer-controlled engine systems using diagnostic equipment
  • initiate orders for parts and equipment
  • document vehicle repair records including repairs, labor hours, and parts used
  • drive equipment in and out of repair shop and road test repaired vehicles
  • operate service truck responding to service calls for breakdowns
  • perform operator pre-trip vehicle inspections
  • promote high standards of safety and housekeeping
  • perform small area body and fender work including spray-painting
  • drive school bus as needed
  • respond to calls after scheduled work hours
  • participate in continuing education training
  • perform other duties as assigned
