Job Requirements
- Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain within 90 days
- Must have an eligible driving record per HHSC fleet policy
- Completion of Defensive Driving class required
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen
- Must pass registry checks including CANRS, Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct
- Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts as required
- Must be able to lift and carry 45 pounds
- Able to work in various weather conditions
- Complete all required training including Safe Use of Restraints and Ukeru training as prescribed
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent preferred
- Prior experience operating motor vehicles with passengers and transporting cargo preferred
- Experience driving light or medium delivery trucks preferred
- Food service work experience preferred
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English
- Ability to perform basic math
- Skilled in operating large trucks and maneuvering safely
- Ability to follow schedules and manage time effectively
- Ability to communicate positively and cooperatively
- Able to lift and carry 45 pounds repeatedly
- Completion of Defensive Driving class required
- Valid Texas driver’s license required within 90 days of hire
- Eligible driving record as per HHSC policy
- Food Handlers certification preferred
- Texas Department of Public Safety Commercial Driver’s License preferred
Job Duties
- Attend work regularly and follow shift schedule including overtime and extended shifts
- Operate motor vehicles such as vans, trucks, and trailers to transport passengers, cargo, and food carts
- Deliver food, supplemental formulas, and beverages to designated locations on schedule and pick up carts after meals
- Store and break out frozen food items for weekly menu requirements, maintaining proper rotation and thawing procedures
- Restock dining rooms with cleaning materials, utensils, and supplies to ensure sanitation
- Check vehicle and trailer operation and cleanliness before shifts and report issues
- Prepare and maintain records and logs related to vehicle operations and breakouts
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance, minor repairs, and refueling
- Ensure vehicle cargo and food cart capacity limits are adhered to and safety restraints are used
- Secure and protect cargo and food carts complying with traffic laws
- Assist in loading/unloading of passengers, cargo, and food carts
- Operate power lift gates, manual hydraulic forklifts, and dollies
- Assist with warehouse and food service duties including cooking, food handling, and cleaning
- Perform other duties as assigned including disaster response and COOP support
