Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is a vital state agency dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Texans. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain within 90 days of hire
- Applicants with out-of-state licenses must provide certified driving record
- Eligible driving record required per HHSC Fleet Management policy
- Food handlers certification preferred
- Texas Department of Public Safety Commercial Driver’s License preferred
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent preferred
- Prior work experience operating motor vehicles with passengers or cargo required
- Must pass fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks
- Must register with Selective Service if male aged 18-25
- Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended hours
- Must be able to tolerate cold and hot weather
- All State Supported Living Center employees subject to random drug testing
- Ability to work a rotating or specific shift schedule
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting items over 40 pounds
Job Qualifications
- Graduation from standard senior high school or equivalent generally preferred
- Prior work experience operating motor vehicles with multiple passengers or transporting cargo preferred
- Ability to understand and comply with written and oral instructions
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
- Knowledge of traffic safety regulations and safe driving techniques
- Ability to communicate cooperatively and positively with others
- Ability to work in physically challenging environments and tolerate various weather conditions
- Ability to operate vehicle power lift gates and hydraulic forklifts
Job Duties
- Attend work on a regular basis and follow assigned shift schedule including overtime and extended hours as needed
- Operate motor vehicles such as vans and trucks to transport passengers, cargo, and food carts
- Perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, and pushing items over 40 pounds
- Prepare and maintain records and logs related to vehicle operations
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance, minor repairs, and vehicle fueling
- Ensure safety protocols are followed, including use of safety restraints and compliance with traffic laws
- Assist in loading and unloading passengers, cargo, and food carts
- Operate vehicle power lift gates, manual hydraulic forklifts, and dollies
- Assist in warehouse and food service duties including food handling and dishwashing
- Perform other duties as assigned including participation in disaster response or continuity of operations
