Job Description

Escalon Unified School District is a well-established educational institution located in southern San Joaquin County, California. Covering approximately 161 square miles, this district was formed in 1967 by unifying seven elementary districts and one secondary district. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • be at least 18 years of age
  • have a satisfactory driving record consistent with the law
  • comply with district, state, and federal guidelines for drug and alcohol testing
  • possess a current and valid California Driver’s Class C License
  • have current first aid certification within 6 months of hire
  • one year of general driving experience
  • have passed physical examination, fingerprinting, and other hiring requirements including first aid and driving tests
  • ability to sit for extended periods
  • ability to ascend and descend steps
  • ability to stand and walk
  • vision in both eyes with or without aids
  • ability to hear and understand speech
  • ability to speak clearly
  • ability to stand, walk, stoop, twist, bend, grasp, reach, push, pull, and move
  • ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 25 pounds
  • ability to perform student evacuation in emergencies
  • willingness to accept reasonable accommodations to perform essential functions

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • valid California driver’s Class C license
  • current first aid certification within 6 months of hire
  • one year of general driving experience
  • knowledge of safe driving laws and vehicle maintenance
  • skill to operate motor vehicle safely under stressful conditions
  • ability to manage student behavior effectively
  • ability to read maps and follow directions
  • ability to maintain order among students
  • ability to perform emergency evacuation procedures
  • ability to communicate clearly and understand written procedures
  • experience working with students with special needs

Job Duties

  • Drive a passenger vehicle for a designated route in accordance with time schedules
  • operate a two-way radio to maintain communication with the district office dispatcher
  • pick up and discharge children, providing personal mobility assistance including loading and unloading students
  • supervise students' conduct on passenger vehicles to ensure a safe and positive environment
  • maintain a variety of records including mileage, routing, maintenance, and time schedules
  • conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles and report any mechanical defects
  • perform minor first aid as required
  • participate in vehicle evacuation drills to comply with regulations
  • review route and passenger changes and report issues to supervisor
  • participate in mandatory training and meetings
  • secure seat belts and restraint devices
  • report and document all accidents and incidents
  • perform other related duties as assigned
