Job Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one year of related experience and/or training, or a combination
- ability to pass a background check
- ability to obtain Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC) or applicable regulatory permits
- physical capability to handle medium to heavy workload
- ability to lift up to or over 20 pounds and occasionally exert over 100 pounds
- willingness to stand, sit, and walk consistently
- ability to perform physical movements including touching, feeling, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
- capability to use office equipment and drive motor vehicles as needed
- willingness to work in environments with noise levels varying from moderate to heavy machinery
- readiness to work in outdoor weather conditions and be in proximity to horses with minimal exposure
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- one to two years of prior experience as a valet or similar role
- knowledge of Thoroughbred horses
- ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- ability to write simple correspondence
- effective presentation and communication skills in one-on-one situations
- basic arithmetic skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- common sense understanding to carry out detailed oral or written instructions
- ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Job Duties
- Obtain numbered saddle towel corresponding to horse's post position in the race
- insert weight pads in the saddle to meet weight requirements for the race
- obtain specific set of colors/silks from Silks Attendant corresponding to stable colors
- assist the trainer with saddling the horse in the assigned stall or in the paddock
- unsaddle horse after each race and return riding equipment to storage area
- abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or departmental guidelines
- assist with horses having problems loading into the gate as directed by the Head Starter
- carry out all duties assigned by the Head Starter
- perform other duties as assigned by management
