Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • must have or obtain California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire
  • must pass functional capacity test before hire
  • prior experience in food services preferred
  • ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime
  • capability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • must join labor union upon hire
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to stand and walk for long periods
  • punctuality and adherence to uniform policy
  • willingness to comply with all health and safety guidelines
  • ability to work collaboratively in a diverse environment

Job Qualifications

  • Any combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent to a high school diploma or GED that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability
  • must successfully pass the California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire and recertify every 3 years
  • must pass a functional capacity test prior to hire
  • experience with food services and hospitality assignments, preferably in an academic institution
  • knowledge of operation and maintenance of kitchen and dishwashing equipment
  • strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • safe lifting and moving of supplies weighing up to 50 pounds
  • punctuality and adherence to uniform standards

Job Duties

  • Must be California Food Handler certified and successfully recertify every 3 years
  • maintain cleanliness of work in food service areas including floors, walls, trash cans, and worktables
  • receive, sort, and wash soiled trays, dishes, glasses, utensils, pots, and pans using appropriate procedures and equipment
  • restock trays, dishes, glasses, utensils, pots, and pans before, during, and after meal periods
  • sweep and mop floors regularly and when spills occur
  • collect and take out trash from service and kitchen areas
  • clean back dock, trash bins, trash cans, and place wet floor signs as needed
  • maintain cleanliness of restrooms
  • assist with loading and unloading trucks
  • assist with setup and strike of dining and banquet rooms
  • provide excellent and professional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and external customers
  • follow and comply with all HACCP guidelines and college policies on health, sanitation, and safe work practices
  • assist with accepting deliveries as needed
  • participate in training sessions
  • perform special projects and tasks as assigned
