Job Requirements

  • High school diploma plus specialized training (6 months-2 years)
  • Entry level experience
  • Completion of Health Unit Coordinator program is preferred
  • Proficiency in use of personal computers
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

Job Duties

  • Acts as a receptionist and performs general clerical duties
  • Prepares, updates and maintains patient charts
  • Transcribes physician orders
  • Assists with processing admissions, transfers and discharge papers
  • Schedules treatments and tests
  • Maintains needed supplies
  • Serves as a resource for physicians, staff, patients and visitors regarding hospital activities and policies
  • Assists in orientations and training of new staff and student clinical rotations
  • Ensures complete charts are sent to appropriate areas for transfers and discharges
  • Knowledge of locating, entering or correcting orders or other information in MIS
