Job Duties
- Serve as unit receptionist, direct patients, visitors and others
- answer telephone and intercom
- take and relay messages
- refer unusual or questionable situations to supervisor or others
- use pneumatic tube system, dumb waiter, and receive and transmit messages
- arrange for specimen transport
- transcribe physician orders
- enter orders into entry system according to standard procedure
- utilize down time procedures when indicated
- duplicate reports, mail and distribute same
- prepare and maintain patient charts and kardexes
- assemble medical records
- file reports and other documents such as laboratory and radiology reports and other information in appropriate part of medical records
- chart temperatures, pulses, blood pressures, weights and respiration
- prepare diet sheets
- ensure completeness of charts and chart documents
- collate medical records according to standard procedure
- assist physician or others in procuring medical records
- schedule patients for consults and diagnostic and therapeutic services
- ensure appropriate transportation to scheduled appointments utilizing services of ancillary departments
- ensure preparation of charts, rooms, ambulances and other services as required or directed
