Job Requirements
- Master of Towing Vessels upon Western Rivers license
- Experience running on the Lower Mississippi River with 30+ loaded barges
- Must meet USCG physical examination requirements
- Ability to travel to and from vessel and training locations by air or car
- Valid driver’s license
- Availability to work 6 hours on and 6 hours off watch
- Experience pushing barges with tows of 20 or more preferred
- Ability to ride in or pilot a crew boat or zodiac
- Capability to work in all weather conditions
- Maintain valid USCG licensing
- Maintain active TWIC
Job Qualifications
- Master of Towing Vessels upon Western Rivers license
- Experience navigating large barge tows, preferably 30+ loaded barges on the Lower Mississippi River
- Proven ability to instruct and supervise crew members
- Knowledge of vessel security protocols and safety management systems
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Experience with vessel budget management and operational reporting
- Valid USCG licensing and active TWIC
Job Duties
- Ensure that work completed during watch complies with ACBL safety policies and practices
- Navigate the vessel safely at all times
- Provide instruction and monitor crew members' job performance
- Execute duties under the Vessel Security Plan as the designated vessel security officer
- Educate crew on cargo specifics and associated hazards
- Enforce all Company policies and Safety Management System guidelines
- Participate in crew management and vessel budget oversight
- Maintain required log entries
- Keep radio watch as needed
- Report Certain Dangerous Cargoes to the Inland River Vessel Movement Center
- Enforce all operational rules
- Assign and direct mates and lead deckhands
- Comply with vessel management policies and procedures
- Optimize vessel budget and cost efficiency
- Communicate effectively with crew, land personnel, USCG, and lock officials
