Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • valid USCG Master of Towing Vessels license endorsed for service
  • meet USCG physical examination requirements
  • valid driver's license
  • active TWIC card
  • ability to climb steep stairs
  • ability to sit or stand for long periods
  • willingness to travel to vessel and training locations

  • Must retain a USCG Master of Towing Vessels license endorsed for service
  • must meet USCG physical examination requirements
  • must possess a valid driver's license
  • must maintain an active TWIC
  • must be able to climb steep stairs, sit or stand for long periods

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and performance of his crew, vessel, and tow
  • ensure company policy, rules, and regulations are followed
  • report violations of policy or laws to the office
  • conduct monthly drills and safety meetings
  • ensure work complies with company safety policies
  • instruct and monitor crew members on job performance
  • serve as designated vessel security officer
  • ensure crew understands cargo and associated hazards
  • enforce policies supporting Crew Endurance Management System
  • participate in crew management and vessel budget oversight
  • complete required log entries
  • maintain radio watch
  • report Certain Dangerous Cargoes at designated points
  • enforce all rules
  • assign and direct mate and lead deckhand
  • comply with vessel management policies
  • maintain vessel budget and maximize cost efficiency
  • provide instructions and information to crew, land-based personnel, and authorities
