Job Requirements

  • must be able to hear clearly with assistance
  • may be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases
  • may be in contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances
  • able to handle emergency or crisis situations
  • required to wear protective equipment as necessary
  • ability to escort or transport patient by wheelchair or stretcher
  • frequently sitting, walking, standing
  • occasionally bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, lifting, carrying, pushing, traveling
  • ability to lift 15-20 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • associates degree preferred
  • current certification in BLS
  • 1-3 years prior medical office experience preferred
  • understanding of medical coding and billing
  • knowledge of state and federal regulations including OSHA, HIPAA, and blood-borne pathogens
  • competent with common PC applications including internet, email, and Microsoft Office
  • ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff

Job Duties

  • Greet patients in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner
  • proactively keep patients informed on delays and expected time to be seen
  • consistently provide superior internal and external customer service
  • ensure patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently
  • obtain registration data, insurance information, and photo ID at each encounter
  • promptly and accurately enter patient data into the computer system
  • verify patient’s insurance
  • accurately enter/update patient information and collect co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles
  • follow all HIPAA guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality
  • balance daily charges and safeguard received money
  • manage patient charts and arrange referrals
  • send patient information and records as requested
  • assist other staff in a positive, team-centered manner
  • assist in scheduling and follow-up on provider referrals
  • ensure lobby remains clean and stocked
  • seek out methods to minimize financial risk
  • contract with auditing services for financial compliance
  • perform other duties as assigned
