Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year experience in customer service, event coordination, travel consulting, or tourism work for Travel Counselor I
- Three years experience in related fields for Travel Counselor II
- Valid driver's license to operate state vehicle
- Completion of Travel Counselor training program within two years
- Ability to work non-standard hours including weekends and holidays
- Capable of standing for prolonged periods
- Able to lift objects up to 20 lbs
- Must pass pre-employment physical
- Must pass drug test
- Adherence to safety and security protocols
Job Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- College education or relevant technical training may substitute for experience
- 1 year customer service, event coordination, travel consulting, or tourism work for Travel Counselor I
- 3 years customer service, event coordination, travel consulting, or tourism work for Travel Counselor II
- Valid driver’s license
- Successful completion of departmental Travel Counselor training program
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to read and interpret maps
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to prepare reports
- Some knowledge of office practices and administrative procedures
- Familiarity with Texas geography, history, cultures, and attractions
Job Duties
- Assist in making presentations to community and touring groups
- Assist in emergency situations including visitor injuries and unusual events
- Conduct travel information center building and grounds inspections
- Employ safety and security measures in the travel information centers
- Provide state-wide travel coordination and information services
- Maintain records and compile statistical data on travel information center activities
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned
