Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • three years related experience and/or training
  • flexible to work 14-day shifts
  • resident more than four hours from assigned base
  • maintain licenses and certifications
  • weight not to exceed 225 pounds including flight gear
  • ability to work 24-hour shifts, overtime, and on-call
  • strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • comply with safety and operational protocols
  • maintain flexibility for base assignments
  • able to travel more than 50 percent of the time

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • minimum three years recent experience in a busy 911 system
  • previous critical care transport and flight experience preferred
  • one year full-time flight experience required for per diem positions
  • registered EMT-P licensed in one or more states served
  • national certification required to meet state licensure
  • specialty certification FP-C or CCP-C required within two years
  • current BLS, ACLS, PALS, ITLS or PHTLS certifications
  • advanced trauma course certification such as TNCC, ATLS/ATCN, TNATC or CAMTS-approved course
  • NRP certification before third rider orientation
  • NIMS training IS 100, 200, 700, 800 and HazMat
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • excellent communication skills

Job Duties

  • Provides pre-hospital advanced life support care from initial contact until patient care is transferred
  • maintains thorough patient care documentation
  • practices within state-defined scope of practice and Air Methods guidelines
  • maintains competency through ongoing training and education
  • manages and maintains medical equipment and supplies on aircraft
  • participates in patient and referring institution follow-up and outreach
  • functions as a flight team member including pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings
  • assists pilots as needed with safety and communication tasks
  • conducts aircraft safety briefings
  • serves as a resource and educator for neonatal and pediatric transport when required
  • participates in departmental projects, committees, and professional development activities
