Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent education preferred
- One year of customer service, patient transportation or nursing aid experience preferred
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) within 90 days required
- Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job
- Proficiency in English language
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers
- Working knowledge of stretchers, wheelchairs and patient mobility equipment
- Knowledge of infection control and safety procedures
- Ability to operate transport equipment safely
- Ability to work evening shifts
- Ability to wear scrubs as uniform
- Must be on-call for emergencies
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent education preferred
- One year of customer service, patient transportation or nursing aid experience preferred
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) within 90 days
- Demonstrated skills and competencies for safe job performance
- Proficiency in English for communication
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family and co-workers
- Working knowledge of stretchers, wheelchairs, mobility of IV pumps and beds
- Knowledge of isolation, infection control and safety procedures
- Ability to operate all transport equipment safely
- Ability to train and orient new transporters
- Ability to make customer service decisions with problem-solving
Job Duties
- Transport acute, intensive and critical care patients by wheelchair, transcart, stretcher or bed
- Support interprofessional team delivering high quality patient care during transit
- Move inpatients and outpatients to diagnostic testing and therapeutic areas, clinics, physician's offices, admissions and discharges throughout the complex
- Assist with preventing patient falls by retrieving Hover Mat/Jack and moving patients safely
- Communicate appropriately and work closely with nursing staff and co-workers
- Deliver patient room furnishings such as bed extensions and sleep chairs
- Transport empty beds as backup duty
- Communicate with nursing, imaging and other departments about delays
- Maintain and clear transport equipment
- Disinfect equipment before and after use
- Transport and store oxygen tanks safely
- Report any safety concerns
- Participate in patient satisfaction and quality improvement initiatives
