Job Requirements

  • No formal education required
  • two years of relevant full-time or equivalent part-time experience
  • valid driver’s license
  • obtain Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of employment
  • ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and hazardous conditions
  • ability to operate various mechanical equipment
  • pass required safety training and certifications as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in roadway maintenance, traffic control, equipment operation or maintenance, or fabrication of aluminum or other metal parts
  • successful completion of an approved vocational school program in the area of assignment may substitute for required experience
  • ability to operate hydraulic post driver and various hand and power tools
  • ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • ability to safely perform work in hazardous conditions
  • valid driver’s license
  • ability to operate motorized highway maintenance equipment
  • knowledge of safety procedures and occupational hazards
  • ability to maintain routine records

Job Duties

  • Install and remove signposts
  • erect traffic control signs and barricades on construction and maintenance projects
  • operate hydraulic post driver to set new signposts
  • cut old signposts with chop saw or remove with hand tools
  • utilize torch to install pavement markings
  • set up traffic control signs and flag motorists at work zones
  • set up lane closures, road closures, and detours
  • manufacture signs using Central Sign Shop machinery
  • distribute signs or accessories from Central Sign Shop to District Sign Shop
