Job Description

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a critical agency within the Department of Homeland Security responsible for securing the nation's transportation systems and ensuring the safety of travelers. Job Requirements

You must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National
You must have reached the minimum age (18) at the time of application
Selective Service registration is required
Must pass a structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation
Subject to post-employment random drug and/or alcohol testing
Must be available to work various shifts and overtime as needed
Must be proficient in English (reading, writing, speaking, comprehending)
Mandatory travel for training and occasional travel may be required
Exposure to potentially lethal devices and dangerous chemicals is inherent in this position
Must meet and maintain physical requirements including squatting and bending
Ability to lift and manipulate baggage weighing approximately 50 pounds
Ability to walk up to three miles and stand for prolonged periods (up to 4 hours)

Job Qualifications

At least one year of full-time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening or as an X-ray technician
Or high school diploma, GED, HiSET or TASC high school equivalency certificate
Proficient in English including reading, writing, speaking and comprehension
Ability to undergo drug screening, medical evaluation and background investigation
Ability to meet physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds and walking up to three miles per shift

Job Duties

Operating various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers
Performing searches and screening including pat-downs, property searches and handling bags up to 50 pounds
Controlling terminal entry and exit points
Interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries
Maintaining focus and awareness in a stressful environment to identify potential threats
Engaging in continuous development of critical thinking skills for security threat mitigation
Retaining and implementing knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and adapting to changes
