Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship or U.S. national status
- Minimum age of 18 at time of application
- Selective Service registration if applicable
- Passing a structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation
- Subject to random drug and alcohol testing
- Availability for various shifts and overtime as needed
- Proficiency in English
- Occasional travel required for training
- Exposure to potentially lethal devices and dangerous chemicals
- Ability to lift and handle baggage weighing approximately 50 pounds
- Physical agility to squat and bend
- Ability to walk up to three miles during shift and stand for up to 4 hours continuously
- Must adhere to TSA dress and appearance standards
- No relocation or pre-employment travel expense reimbursement
- Must maintain certification and fitness including recurrent training and passing periodic tests
- Must meet residency requirements for background investigation
- May require wearing TSA issued personal protective equipment (PPE)
Job Qualifications
- At least one year of full-time work experience in the security industry, aviation screening, or as an X-ray technician
- Or high school diploma, GED, HiSET, or TASC high school equivalency certificate
- Experience credited on a 40-hour workweek basis
- Volunteer and national service experience considered qualifying
- Ability to meet physical demands including lifting 50 pounds and standing for prolonged periods
- Proficiency in English including reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension
- Must pass drug screening, medical evaluation, background investigation, and structured interview
- Availability to work various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
Job Duties
- Operating various screening equipment and technology to detect dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers
- Performing searches and screening including pat-downs and property searches
- Lifting and carrying bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50 pounds
- Controlling terminal entry and exit points
- Interacting with the public by providing directions and responding to inquiries
- Maintaining focus and awareness in stressful and noisy environments
- Engaging in continuous development of critical thinking skills to mitigate security threats
- Retaining and implementing all applicable Standard Operating Procedures and adapting to new challenges
