Job Requirements
- Completion of Indiana or state EMS-approved paramedic course
- Current unrestricted Indiana or Michigan Paramedic license
- Ability to maintain both Indiana and Michigan paramedic licenses
- Obtain Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic Certification within two years of hire
- Minimum one year of paramedic experience preferred
- Maintain current BCLS and other relevant certifications
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts including weekends, holidays, and on call
- Must arrive at Memorial Hospital South Bend within 30 minutes of notification
- Physical ability to perform patient care and transport duties
- Adherence to universal precautions and safety protocols
- Availability for overtime and additional shifts as required
- Compliance with all departmental and organizational policies
Job Qualifications
- Completion of Indiana or State EMS-approved paramedic course
- Current unrestricted Indiana or Michigan Paramedic license
- Current or previous National Registry certification
- One year of paramedic experience preferred
- Ability to obtain and maintain Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic Certification within two years
- Proficiency in emergency vehicle operation and transport protocols
- Strong clinical and critical thinking skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal abilities
- Leadership and organizational skills
- Competency in computer applications related to documentation and reporting
- Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations in patient care and transport
Job Duties
- Performs paramedic procedures approved by the Advanced Life Support Committee
- Functions as a member of the Beacon Health System Transport Team managing patients with diverse medical conditions
- Applies advanced emergency and critical care skills for patient assessment and stabilization
- Collaborates with healthcare professionals to develop transport care plans
- Establishes and maintains a safe therapeutic environment during transport
- Operates ambulance communication and navigation equipment
- Administers oxygen and medications as appropriate
- Performs advanced airway management including intubation and suctioning
- Documents patient status, care, and responses thoroughly
- Initiates intravenous and intraosseous access and administers fluids
- Conducts laboratory sample collection and point of care testing
- Performs CPR, cardioversion, defibrillation, and other life-saving interventions
- Maintains and inspects transport equipment and ambulance readiness
- Holds current certifications and participates in ongoing training
- Acts in a shift charge supervisory role coordinating staffing and transport logistics
- Assists with additional patient care duties as requested
- Participates in department meetings and maintains compliance with policies and regulations
