Job Requirements

Completion of EMS-approved paramedic course
Unrestricted Indiana or Michigan Paramedic license
Ability to work 12-hour shifts including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
Ability to report to work within 30 minutes of notification
Physical ability to perform patient care including lifting up to 35 pounds unassisted
Mental and emotional stability to handle stressful situations
Maintenance of certifications including BCLS and required educational sessions
Compliance with universal precautions and safety policies
Valid driver's license and ability to operate ambulance equipment

Job Qualifications

Successful completion of Indiana or State EMS-approved paramedic course
Current unrestricted Indiana or Michigan Paramedic license
Current or previous National Registry to apply
One year of previous experience as a Paramedic preferred
Ability to obtain and maintain Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic certification within two years
Knowledge of ambulance and transport equipment
Proficient in patient assessment, transport protocols and critical thinking
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Leadership and organizational skills
Computer proficiency including data entry and word processing
Awareness of legal issues related to patient care and transport

Job Duties

Perform paramedic procedures approved by the Advanced Life Support Committee
Function as a member of the Beacon Health System Transport Team managing patients with various medical emergencies
Apply knowledge in emergency, critical care and clinical skills for patient assessment and stabilization
Collaborate with associates to formulate patient care plans and anticipate emergencies
Maintain safe and therapeutic environment during patient transport
Operate two way radio and GPS mapping system
Administer oxygen and perform suctioning as needed
Monitor and document patient status and care
Initiate intravenous and intraosseous access and administer fluids
Obtain laboratory samples and perform point of care testing
Perform CPR, intubation, defibrillation, and other emergency procedures
Administer medications as per guidelines
Communicate patient status updates to referring agencies
Participate in equipment evaluation and maintenance
Maintain certifications and complete mandatory training
Serve as shift charge and liaison with medical staff when assigned
Assist with patient care and hospital support functions
Complete department meetings, competencies, and education
Adhere to infection control and safety protocols
Work overtime and varied shifts as required
