Job Requirements

  • Paramedic training required
  • Two years progressively responsible paramedic work experience
  • CA Paramedic license required
  • NREMT/Paramedic certification preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Understanding of EMTALA and related regulations
  • Familiarity with third-party payer requirements preferred
  • Advanced radio communication skills
  • Ability to communicate medical status accurately
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team
  • Commitment to hospital policies and code of conduct

Job Qualifications

  • Paramedic training
  • Two years of directly related paramedic work experience
  • CA Paramedic license
  • NREMT/Paramedic certification preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Familiarity with EMTALA rules and regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of radio communications and emergency medical dispatch procedures
  • Ability to communicate medical status effectively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Strong multitasking and prioritization skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise sound judgment

Job Duties

  • Conducts initial telephone intake regarding patient transfer requests
  • Receives calls and sets up teleconferences with physicians and relevant staff
  • Operates multi-telephone lines, radio consoles, and related transport equipment
  • Partners with Patient Placement and Physicians to identify receiving services
  • Develops positive customer service relationships
  • Maintains databases on referrals and hospital locations
  • Coordinates with agencies for emergency and trauma-related transport
  • Responds to emergency transport calls and dispatch Life Flight crew
  • Maintains documentation and reports on patient transfers
  • Monitors weather products and flight systems
  • Provides information on transport availability and projections
  • Reviews patient information for acuity and transfer necessity
  • Coordinates mode of transport based on patient acuity
  • Documents findings and transfer recommendations
  • Tracks patient acceptance in electronic medical records
  • Participates in staff training and operational procedure development
