Job Requirements

  • Paramedic training required
  • Two years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience as paramedic
  • CA Paramedic license
  • NREMT/Paramedic certification preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of EMTALA and related regulations
  • Knowledge of third-party payer requirements preferred
  • Advanced understanding of radio communications and emergency dispatch
  • Ability to communicate medical status and care accurately
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to perform complex tasks and work under pressure
  • Ability to remain calm and apply sound judgment
  • Ability to write and speak effectively

Job Qualifications

  • Paramedic training required

  • Knowledge of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA)
  • Advanced understanding of radio communications and emergency medical dispatch procedures

  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize multiple projects
  • Strong communication skills

Job Duties

  • Conducts initial telephone intake of information regarding requests for transfer of patients from referring hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities
  • Receives incoming calls and sets up teleconferences with attending physicians, flight/transport nurse, referral source and appropriate receiving staff
  • Operates Transfer Center multi-telephone lines, two-way radio transmission and receiving console, and computer database systems
  • Partners with Patient Placement staff, Physicians, and other stakeholders to identify receiving services for patients
  • Develops and promotes positive customer service with patients, families, visitors and staff
  • Maintains database on referrals and hospital locations
  • Maintains interface with agencies to coordinate transport services in emergency and trauma situations
  • Responds to emergency transport calls and dispatches Life Flight medical crew according to procedures
  • Documents and prepares reports concerning patient progress and transfer
  • Monitors and interprets weather products including radar and satellite systems
  • Coordinates mode of transport based on patient acuity and consults with physicians regarding medical necessity of transfers
  • Tracks all patient acceptance processes in electronic medical records system
