Job Requirements

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review
  • subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen
  • successfully complete and maintain required safety certification and testing annually

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • bachelor’s degree preferred
  • previous train dispatching experience preferred
  • railroad experience preferred
  • ability to read, write, communicate, and issue oral instructions clearly using various communication devices
  • ability to type 35 words per minute
  • available to work 40-hour work week with possible overtime, on-call, and alternate shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to make quick and accurate decisions in a high-pressure environment

Job Duties

  • Ensure compliance with federal and company safety rules, policies, and procedures
  • respond to safety concerns and take appropriate action
  • maintain knowledge of territory, train schedules, and destinations
  • ensure proper track bulletins, track warrants, and communications to all employees are accurate and timely
  • maintain annual qualification on operating rules, timetables, special instructions, and procedures
  • monitor train movement and conditions affecting movements including weather and crew availability
  • coordinate responses to unplanned events and emergency situations
  • perform administrative duties related to hours-of-service, hazardous materials, train movement documentation, and rule violation reporting
  • direct and indirectly supervise train crews, Maintenance of Way, and signal employees
  • engage in regular and consistent promotion of company culture
  • maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality
  • perform other duties as assigned
