Job Description
Southeast Conservation Corps (SECC) is a distinguished non-profit, AmeriCorps-affiliated organization committed to environmental stewardship and community service throughout the Southeastern United States. SECC empowers young adults aged 18-30, including veterans and individuals from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds, to cultivate key values such as compassion, responsibility, and grit. Participants have the opportunity to work on conservation projects on public lands, which allows them to engage deeply with nature and local communities while gaining hands-on environmental experience. Job Requirements
- Must be between 18 and 30 years old
- Must be US citizen
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Must pass National Sex Offender Public Registry and federal criminal background checks
- Must have valid driver’s license and clean record
- Able to hike on uneven and off-trail terrain
- Must pass vehicle safety and driver background screenings
- Able to lift or move objects up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Must agree to drug-free environment policies
Job Qualifications
- Experience with trail improvements on public land
- Experience using chainsaws or brush cutters professionally
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to hike on uneven terrain in diverse weather conditions
- S212 Chainsaw Certification preferred
- Age between 18 and 30
- US citizenship
- High school diploma or GED
- Eligible for AmeriCorps education award
Job Duties
- Maintain trails at TNC South Carolina preserves
- Assist with habitat improvements and management
- Improve trail tread using hand tools
- Open trail corridor with loppers and chainsaw
- Improve trail signage including trail blazes
- Maintain tools and equipment
- Operate vehicles and boats safely for transportation to service sites
