Job Requirements

  • High school education or GED
  • minimum of 2 years of traffic signal experience
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I certification required
  • IMSA Work Zone Safety certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • IMSA Signs and Markings Technician Level I or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level II or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • IMSA Roadway Lighting Technician Level I or ability to obtain within 24 months
  • valid driver’s license
  • Class B CDL within 6 months of hire
  • ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • ability to operate heavy equipment including bucket truck and jackhammer
  • willingness to work after hours and weekends when on call
  • ability to perform underground locating
  • ability to follow safety and MUTCD standards
  • ability to maintain accurate records

Job Qualifications

  • strong computer skills for testing and programming traffic signal equipment

Job Duties

  • Perform skilled work in installation and preventative and corrective maintenance on all traffic signal equipment including poles, mast arms, signal heads, pull boxes, controller cabinets, MMU's, controllers, UPS systems, school flasher beacons, pedestrian push button activated systems, fiber optic cable and traffic network components
  • install power meter pedestals and breaker panels feeding traffic assets
  • perform annual certification of all malfunction monitor units
  • install and maintain emergency vehicle detection, emergency vehicle preemption, PTZ cameras and signal communications
  • setup, install and maintain all traffic network switches, devices and wireless spread spectrum network radios
  • monitor performance of traffic devices utilizing computerized master control software (Econolite Centracs)
  • maintain accurate records relating to traffic activities, problems and repairs
  • perform underground locates of traffic signal wiring, communications lines / fiber optic lines
  • set up and maintain traffic control per MUTCD
  • perform maintenance and repairs to city owned streetlighting and school zone flashing beacons
  • perform fabrication, installation and maintenance of traffic signs and signposts
  • perform installation and removal of pavement markings
  • operate bucket truck, maintain painting equipment and roadway grinding equipment
  • install and maintain copper twisted pair cable and fiber optic communications cables
  • assist with maintaining inventory of traffic signal equipment and materials
  • respond to after-hour emergencies when on-call in monthly rotation
  • repair malfunctioning, knocked down or inoperable traffic regulatory devices
