Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Vocational or technical diploma or certification in Electronics, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related field
- One year experience or training in electrical, electronic, or civil engineering field
- Valid Alabama commercial driver’s license Class A within twelve months of employment
- Ability to operate heavy and electronic machinery and tools
- Physical ability to perform heavy work
- Ability to read and comprehend technical documents
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work under moderate stress and emergency conditions
- Must be willing to be on 24-hour call and respond within one hour
- Subject to pre-employment and random drug screenings
Job Qualifications

- Ability to operate various machinery and electronic equipment
- Knowledge of fiber optic network design and installation
- Strong troubleshooting and repair skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
- Good communication skills for interacting with co-workers, supervisors, and the public
- Ability to work independently and follow safety procedures
Job Duties
- Troubleshoots, modifies, tests, repairs and maintains traffic signal and street lighting system equipment
- Installs streetlight poles and traffic signal equipment including locating underground cables, digging trenches, setting poles and electrical connections
- Performs bench work involving component level and computerized traffic equipment
- Programs electronic and electro-mechanical signal controllers, conflict monitors, time clocks, and loop detectors
- Operates remote computer terminals to monitor and modify signaled intersections
- Installs traffic counters and speed analyzers and retrieves data
- Designs and installs fiber optic networks including fusion splicing and integrity testing
- Builds concrete pole foundations and ensures safety by placing work zone signs and flags
- Observes traffic control devices to detect malfunctions and performs preventive maintenance
- Operates machinery and equipment including bucket trucks, saws, compressors, backhoes, trenchers, drills and diagnostic instruments
- Remains on 24-hour call as scheduled and responds promptly to emergencies
- Reviews price quotes and purchases electrical supplies
- Cleans and organizes buildings, work areas, and equipment
- Prepares documentation, records and reports related to work activities
- Performs other related duties as required
