Job Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED equivalent
  • One year of public contact or community service work experience
  • Valid class C driver’s license with acceptable driving record and insurance
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including holidays, weekends, and overtime
  • Pass pre-employment medical examination including drug and alcohol screening
  • Pass background investigation including polygraph test
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear
  • Ability to lift and carry documents weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Tolerate outdoors work in various weather conditions
  • Must have close, color, and depth vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Must have the ability to use hands and arms as required by job duties

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • One year of public contact or community service experience
  • Knowledge of California Vehicle Code and municipal parking ordinances
  • Ability to operate computerized ticket writers and right-hand drive vehicles
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, management, and the public
  • Experience with basic traffic collision investigation methods

Job Duties

  • Patrol assigned areas on foot and in vehicles to enforce parking regulations and vehicle codes
  • Mark vehicles in timed parking areas
  • Issue parking citations for illegal parking, street sweeping routes, and parking ordinance violations
  • Recognize suspicious or abandoned vehicles and research DMV records for identification
  • Respond to and investigate basic injury and non-injury traffic collision reports
  • Conduct follow-up investigations on hit-and-run collisions
  • Arrange towing and impounding of abandoned vehicles
  • Notify Public Works of required services like sign replacement and tree trimming
  • Testify in court related to disputed violations
  • Perform traffic and crowd control at events
  • Assist citizens by providing directions
  • Lead contracted street sweeper along sweeper routes
