Job Requirements
- currently serving permanently as a traffic control inspector or filed for civil service open competitive exam #3062 for traffic control inspector
- must possess a valid motor vehicle driver license valid in the state of new york
- ability to drive to and from work assignments
- must reside in new york city for the first two years of employment
- physical capability to perform environmental tasks including bending, lifting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking outdoors in all weather conditions
- use of computer database programs such as access and excel preferred
- work hours monday to friday from 6 am to 2 pm
- appointment subject to omb approval
Job Qualifications
- a four year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a state's department of education or recognized accrediting organization
- two years full time experience in vehicular traffic regulation and control or conducting traffic studies
- an associate of applied science degree in engineering technology, urban studies, urban planning, mathematics or a closely related field
- a valid new york state motor vehicle driver license
- ability to use computer programs such as access, excel, sims, and related operational business systems
- good communication and reporting skills
- physical ability to perform tasks including bending, lifting, climbing stairs, and walking outdoors in various weather conditions
Job Duties
- perform site visits and inspect parking garages and fields to assess condition, cleanliness, service, and safety
- identify defects, damages, or maintenance issues and report to management and stakeholders
- monitor parking operator performance to ensure contractual adherence
- conduct field studies and surveys including lighting, parking spaces, roadway and pedestrian conditions, measurements, fences, abandoned vehicles, traffic control devices, parking meters, ADA compliance, and occupancy
- prepare detailed reports and diagrams of field conditions and survey results
- inspect completed work for compliance with established standards and specifications
- monitor installation and removal of traffic and parking devices such as signs, signals, meters, pavement markings, and ramps
- maintain records and databases for parking facility reports and surveys
- participate in monthly meetings with garage operators to review performance and concerns
- investigate and handle 311 complaints related to municipal parking facilities
- attend depositions and legal proceedings as required
- perform other related duties
