Job Requirements
- Currently serving permanently as Traffic Control Inspector or reachable on civil service list Exam #3062 or eligible under 55a program
- four year high school diploma or equivalent
- two years full-time experience in traffic regulation or studies or associate degree in relevant field
- valid New York State driver license
- ability to perform physical activities such as bending, lifting, walking, standing outdoors
- residence in New York City for first two years of employment
- willingness to work Monday to Friday 6:00am - 2:00pm
- ability to use computer systems for data entry
- no phone calls or personal inquiries accepted
Job Qualifications
- Four year high school diploma or equivalent
- two years full-time experience in vehicular traffic regulation or conducting traffic studies
- associate degree in engineering technology, urban studies, urban planning, mathematics or related field is preferred
- valid motor vehicle driver license in New York State
- ability to prepare detailed reports and sketches
- experience using computer database programs
- knowledge of traffic control devices and their applications
- ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- proficiency in measuring and recording field data
- good communication and interpersonal skills
Job Duties
- Conduct inspections and field surveys for vehicular traffic regulation and control
- measure sidewalks, curbsides, streets including corner curb radius
- obtain footage of street furniture such as muni-meters, fire hydrants, trees, signs, drive rails, light poles, mailboxes, kiosks, benches, bike racks
- determine direction of traffic flow on adjacent streets
- investigate complaints regarding traffic and parking
- recommend placement or removal of traffic signs, signals, muni-meters, pavement markings, and traffic control devices
- monitor installation or removal of traffic control devices
- prepare reports, diagrams, and sketches of field conditions
- create work orders for sign and meter changes
- inspect completed work for compliance with standards
- utilize computer database programs including Sign Inventory Management System
- perform related operational duties as assigned
