Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience in retail, sales, or customer service
  • proficiency in English both spoken and written
  • ability to handle money accurately
  • ability to work flexible schedules including evenings and weekends
  • ability to engage with diverse visitor populations
  • ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments
  • availability to travel between OMCA locations as needed

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to display and encourage visitor and internal customer service, take and share responsibility and treat others with respect
  • 1-2 years of retail, sales, or service industry experience
  • English language proficiency in both spoken and written form
  • customer service practices and principles in a diverse environment
  • knowledge of basic math with demonstrated proficiency in handling money/cashiering

Job Duties

  • Match OMCA offerings to the interests and needs of guests to sell admission and program tickets, memberships, and merchandise through multiple electronic point-of-sale systems
  • respond to telephone, voicemail, written, and e-mail inquiries for information regarding visits, tours, accessibility, member sales, etc
  • greet and welcome visitors and offer helpful directions to a variety of OMCA offerings
  • provide accurate information and answers in a timely manner about exhibitions, programs, facility usage and events to all visitors, document visitor comments and inquiries in appropriate systems
  • serve as an advocate for the visitor while promoting the welfare of the museum and communicate with a variety of visitors with diverse interests and abilities to ensure a positive museum experience
  • serve as greeter, event check-in person, ticket-taker, and/or usher at museum-sponsored or private event programs
  • participate in visitor data collection efforts to improve targeting of offerings and increase sales
  • assist event clients and guests by orienting vendors and guests to appropriate points of entry and paths of arrival
  • participate in organizational trainings and meetings as required
  • assist guests in selecting merchandise by using product information and available resources to educate customers and connect stories about products to the overall mission
  • complete sales transactions efficiently and accurately
  • restock merchandise and organize displayed items
  • process and manage shipments of new product for sale including verifying packing slips/invoices and marking new merchandise
  • assist with online store assets including writing copy for product descriptions and editing product photography
  • package orders from the online store for shipment
  • assist in conducting annual inventory
  • tidy merchandise, rearrange displays, and clean work areas
  • restock and assemble boxes and other supplies
  • open and/or close ticketing desk and/or store as needed
  • count money at beginning and end of shift as assigned and ensure accurate registry logs
  • create and post program, event, and store signage conforming to OMCA Store style guides
