Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • training in institutional food preparation or equivalent knowledge
  • previous experience in large-scale food preparation
  • vocational coursework in cooking, sanitation, and equipment operation
  • ability to follow recipes and safety protocols
  • good communication and teamwork skills
  • ability to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards

Job Qualifications

  • knowledge of cooking methods and procedures including various types of food preparation
  • familiarity with kitchen equipment
  • training in institutional food preparation or equivalent demonstrable knowledge
  • experience in large-scale food preparation
  • vocational coursework in cooking, sanitation, and equipment operation
  • high school diploma or GED

Job Duties

  • establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, visitors, and other employees
  • contribute to and participate in performance and quality improvement activities
  • review menu and assemble food supplies and equipment
  • follow recipes and production information to prepare all menu items
  • prepare menu items such as vegetables, fish, meat, casseroles, soups, and stews using kitchen equipment
  • follow instructions from supervisors for batch cooking
  • participate in monitoring of food quality, temperature, and accuracy
  • complete setup and placement of food items on patient tray line and other carriers
  • assist in facilitating flow of work in kitchen and food distribution
  • instruct and observe activities of cook’s helper
  • guide cook’s helper in recording statistics
  • maintain proper care, maintenance, and sanitation of work area, equipment, and supplies
  • alert supervisors to equipment, food supply, sanitation, and safety issues
  • maintain policies for quality assurance, safety, environment, and infection control
  • attend department and hospital meetings
  • participate in educational programs to improve skills
