Job Description

Tufts Dining is a self-operated food service provider dedicated to managing a comprehensive collegiate food service program at Tufts University's Medford-Somerville campus. The department aims to deliver high-quality, contemporary, and innovative food and hospitality services tailored to meet the diverse needs of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Serving a large community of approximately 5,100 undergraduates, 1,700 graduate students, and 2,300 faculty, staff, and administrators, Tufts Dining runs a progressive residential dining program alongside responsive retail services and a distinctive university catering program. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to operate flat top griddle, deep fryer, char-broiler, steamer, foodservice meat slicer, industrial mixer, pizza oven, vacuum sealer, tilt kettle, food processor, buffalo chopper and additional required foodservice equipment
  • Must possess excellent knife skills and demonstrate solid understanding of foodservice terminology
  • Ability to work during academic year shifts Monday to Friday, 1:00 PM to 9:30 PM EST
  • Ability to follow all department standards for quality, sanitation, and food safety
  • Ability to meet meal service deadlines efficiently
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from management and culinary professionals
  • Ability to work under periods of fast pace and high pressure
  • Adherence to schedule policies including punching in and out according to department policy

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Associates Degree in Culinary Arts preferred
  • ServSafe Certification preferred
  • Excellent knife skills
  • Solid understanding of foodservice terminology
  • Ability to work independently and meet performance standards
  • Friendly and courteous customer service skills

Job Duties

  • Prepare a variety of menu items following established preparation guidelines and department recipes
  • Complete all assigned work to meet meal service deadlines and follow department standards for quality and sanitation
  • Prepare food products in customer service areas and interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully meet proficiency standards including timeliness, accuracy, and quality
  • Work with minimal supervision in a logical, efficient, and productive manner
  • Execute opening and closing duties as assigned
  • Clean, sanitize, and maintain food preparation equipment and station, implement food safety guidelines, and complete service records accurately
