Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Post secondary culinary training or certification as cook
  • One year cooking experience in upscale, high-volume hotel or restaurant
  • Thorough knowledge of food service sanitation standards
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Post secondary culinary training or certification as cook from a recognized culinary training school
  • One year of experience cooking in an upscale, high-volume hotel or freestanding restaurant or equivalent
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of food service sanitation standards
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
  • Familiarity with standard kitchen equipment and its safe use
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Job Duties

  • Assists chefs with preparation of raw food items prior to cooking
  • Prepares food items to order according to approved standardized recipes
  • Plates food for service according to established plating and presentation criteria
  • Ensures all food served is of the highest quality and timely
  • Monitors finished products awaiting server pick up to ensure prompt service
  • Follows all governmental food sanitation standards
  • Monitors refrigeration and holding temperatures, cleans and sanitizes work surfaces
  • Uses kitchen equipment safely according to manufacturer recommendations
  • Notifies supervisor of equipment malfunctions or safety hazards
  • Provides steward with timely notification for needed clean dishes and utensils
  • Cleans and breaks down work area at the end of shift
  • Ensures cooking equipment is turned off and kitchen is secure at shift end
  • Promotes teamwork and maintains polite and friendly interactions with guests and staff
  • Executes emergency procedures per hotel standards
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations and hotel policies
  • Attends hotel meetings and training sessions
  • Maintains cleanliness and condition of equipment and work area
  • Recycles whenever possible
  • Complies with hotel uniform and grooming standards
  • Other duties as assigned
