Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • knowledge of customer care, OS&D, billing, pricing, tracing, dispatching, weights and inspection
  • proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • AS400 experience preferred
  • strong customer service skills

  • able to work independently with minimal guidance
  • good problem-solving skills
  • willing to work night or alternate schedules
  • able to lift 20 pounds
  • comply with company policies and Code of Conduct

  • pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • authorized to work in the United States

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or general educational degree (GED), or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • knowledgeable in all functional areas including customer care, OS&D, billing, pricing, tracing, dispatching, weights and inspection
  • proficient in MS Word and Excel
  • AS400 experience strongly preferred
  • strong customer service skills
  • excellent verbal, written communication and listening skills
  • ability to answer most questions and accomplish tasks without guidance
  • good understanding of departmental priorities, workflow and guidelines
  • problem-solving skills requiring independent judgment
  • ability to work night or alternate schedules with notice
  • transportation industry experience a plus
  • able to lift at least 20 pounds
  • able to comply with company policies and Code of Conduct
  • good interpersonal skills
  • able to work independently or in a team
  • capable of managing multiple priorities in a high volume environment
  • comprehension of safety rules and operational procedures
  • must pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests
  • authorized to work in the United States

Job Duties

  • create freight manifest list using applicable coding
  • assist dispatcher with assigning pick-up and delivery drivers for local delivery activities and/or road drivers
  • assist dispatcher with maintaining city dispatch sheet and advising drivers concerning any problems encountered in the pick up and delivery of freight
  • assist with city dispatch when needed
  • responsible for scheduling, tracking, tracing and billing
  • assist with coordinate Line Haul drivers via information in the computer system and phone communication with terminals to get freight moved in a timely manner
  • interact with Line Haul Supervisor, Operations Planner, terminal personnel, VP of Operations, Breakdown Coordinators, and Line Haul Drivers
  • assist with Line Haul activities
  • assist with planning dispatches to accommodate cost and service goals
  • maintain count list of items received or shipped and check against bill of lading
  • investigate and resolve overages, shortages and damaged freight issues including Hazmat materials
  • prepare paperwork and repack all OS&D freight
  • maintain accurate records to report all OS&D freight issues daily or weekly
  • maintain clean and organized OS&D area
  • serve as first line resource to less experienced clerical staff by coaching and answering questions
  • provide guidance and one on one training to less experienced employees
  • set up and maintain employee files, payroll records, and filing systems
  • compile and track job applicant information for AAP compliance
  • coordinate and process payroll changes and new employee information
  • conduct new employee orientation and collect paperwork
  • maintain regular attendance
  • perform other duties as assigned
