Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of Benihana chef training program
  • Previous experience as a chef or cook highly desirable
  • Ability to engage with guests and perform in a live cooking environment
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform kitchen duties

  • Previous experience as chef or cook highly desirable

Job Duties

  • Greets and welcomes guests within 15 minutes of their teppan order
  • Performs a cooking show for assigned tables ensuring interaction with guests is appropriate and courteous
  • Provides guests with information about foods as they are being cooked or upon inquiries
  • Responds promptly and courteously to guest requests
  • Asks guests for cooking preferences and follows guest instructions
  • Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items using various kitchen equipment
  • Performs shift opening and closing duties such as cleaning refrigeration units, chef carts, and floors
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, teppan cooking areas, equipment, and food storage areas
  • Reports any kitchen equipment or maintenance issues
  • Adheres to company standards on food portioning, cooking methods, quality standards, recipes, service cycle, policies, and procedures
  • Prepares foods according to portion standards and recipe specifications including battering, breading, seasoning, and marinating
  • Ensures proper food presentation and garnishing
  • Handles food in compliance with safety and health regulations using FIFO method
  • Uses knives and utensils to prepare food to meet dining room needs
  • Adheres to company guidelines on alcoholic beverage service
  • Maintains a clean and neat appearance and courteous manner with guests
  • Notifies manager on duty immediately if guests are unsatisfied or if accidents occur
  • Participates in guest special occasion celebrations and may photograph or be photographed with guests
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisors
