Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to successfully complete Benihana chef training program
  • Previous experience as chef or cook highly desirable
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to perform cooking shows and engage guests
  • Must maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards
  • Ability to follow food safety and handling regulations
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends

Job Duties

  • Greets and welcomes guests within 15 minutes of their teppan orders
  • Performs a cooking show for assigned tables ensuring interaction with guests is appropriate and courteous
  • Provides guests with information about Benihana foods during cooking or upon inquiry
  • Responds promptly and courteously to guest requests
  • Asks guests for cooking preferences and follows instructions
  • Prepares meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items using kitchen equipment
  • Performs shift opening and closing duties including cleaning refrigeration units and floors
  • Maintains kitchen and teppan cooking areas clean, sanitary, and organized
  • Reports kitchen equipment or maintenance issues to chef or manager on duty
  • Prepares foods according to portion standards and recipes
  • Adheres to guidelines on food presentation and garnishes
  • Handles and stores foods properly following health and safety laws
  • Uses knives and utensils for food preparation and portioning
  • Adheres to guidelines on alcoholic beverage service
  • Presents a clean and neat appearance and courteous manner
  • Notifies manager on duty of guest dissatisfaction or accidents
  • Participates in making guest special occasions memorable
  • Performs other duties assigned by supervisor
