Job Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • must be able to successfully pass Benihana chef training program
  • previous experience as chef or cook highly desirable
  • ability to perform cooking shows and engage guests
  • availability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • comply with company grooming and appearance standards

Job Qualifications

  • previous experience as chef or cook highly desirable
  • strong customer service and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • effective communication skills

Job Duties

  • Greets and welcomes guests within 15 minutes of their teppan order
  • performs a cooking show for assigned tables ensuring interaction with guests is appropriate and courteous
  • provides guests information about Benihana foods and responds promptly to guest requests
  • asks guests for cooking preference and follows guest instructions
  • prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items using various kitchen equipment
  • performs shift opening and closing duties such as cleaning refrigeration units, chef carts and floors
  • maintains kitchen and teppan area cleanliness and reports equipment issues to management
  • complies with company standards on food portioning, cooking methods, and recipes
  • prepares foods according to portion standards and recipe specifications including battering, breading, seasoning or marinating
  • adheres to company guidelines on food presentation and garnish
  • handles and stores foods properly in accordance with health and safety laws
  • uses knives, utensils and equipment to portion and prepare food
  • follows guidelines on alcoholic beverage service
  • maintains a clean, neat appearance and courteous manner
  • notifies management when guests are dissatisfied or if accidents occur
  • participates in special occasion celebrations and may photograph guests
  • performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
