Job Requirements

  • Must enjoy working with the public and have ability to deal with diverse people
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and individually
  • Demonstrated professional demeanor and personal initiative
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to calmly organize and direct during emergencies
  • Experience in museums or cultural organizations preferred
  • Educational background or interest in science and natural history preferred
  • Current certification in AED, CPR, and First Aid preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist in the safety and security of the museum by monitoring visitors, exhibitions, the building, and grounds
  • Provide clear guidance, direction, and information to visitors to ensure a positive experience
  • Document and report physical interactions with exhibits and address inappropriate behavior
  • Report any missing or damaged objects and irregularities relating to safety or fire hazards
  • Follow museum policies and security procedures during operations and special events
  • Operate freight elevator and manual warehouse equipment, set up furniture and equipment for events
  • Serve as initial responder in emergencies, know evacuation procedures and assist in safe evacuation
