Job Requirements

  • Skills to maintain a sanitary, safe and organized work area

  • Knowledge of food safety handling techniques
  • Experience working and communicating professionally with diverse populations
  • Culinary experience and/or equivalent training
  • Experience in sautéing, grilling, frying, steaming, and sauce preparation
  • Knowledge of various cuisines and special diets
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment
  • Skill in portion control and recipe adherence
  • Ability to use measuring utensils and equipment
  • Adept at tasting and discerning product quality
  • Proficient in HACCP food temperature checks and logs
  • Experience with computerized cash registers
  • Ability to clean tables, restrooms, and floors
  • Experience in sanitizing surfaces
  • Preferred experience in hospital or academic environments
  • Certification in sanitation and foodborne illness prevention is advantageous
  • Ability to use PPE such as hot mitts and cut-resistant gloves
  • Skills to test sanitation solution concentrations
  • Ability to guide student assistants and kitchen staff
  • Willingness to comply with background checks, drug screens, and vaccination policies

Job Qualifications

  • Culinary experience or equivalent training in a high-volume industrial kitchen
  • Knowledge of culinary techniques such as sautéing, grilling, frying, steaming, sauce and stock preparation
  • Understanding of diverse cuisines including American, Asian, Italian, Mexican, vegetarian, vegan, and special diets
  • Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment
  • Proficiency in portion control and food quality assessment
  • Experience using measuring tools and reading recipes
  • Skills in HACCP food temperature monitoring and documentation
  • Experience operating computerized cash registers for Food Service Workers
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation guidelines

Job Duties

  • Prepare food items according to recipe specifications and quality standards
  • Operate industrial kitchen equipment such as ranges, ovens, grills, slicers, and mixers
  • Maintain food safety, sanitation, and portion control standards
  • Assist with cleaning, dishwashing, and kitchen maintenance tasks
  • Serve as backup to Sous Chef or Senior Cook when needed
  • Provide exceptional customer service and communicate effectively with staff and guests
  • Manage tray line, cashier duties, and food stocking as required
